I’m curious and fascinated by the new age concept of slowing down. For me, life, IS SLOW. Sure, there have been areas in life where some stages of my life have moved forward much quicker than the expected but I look at the dynamic flow in which is my life and I remember the person that has evolved through those stages and I look at her with deep love and admiration. She didn’t just survive but she revived her essence and what her purpose is. A bit like this mindful practice of making your bed.
When I first learned about the simple art of making your bed, I chuckled to myself about firstly, how ridiculous it sounds and I always thought this is something we all do…don’t we?!
I was curious to understand its meaning and the purpose behind why we should make our beds every day.
What I’ve learned from the mindful practice of “Making Your Bed” is Gratitude.
Learning to practice gratitude by intentionally tucking and folding the sheets then carefully ironing the sheets flat with your hands and fluffing the pillows to your liking. Building the relationship of intention to carefully make your bed stimulates in the mind the process of how something is done. When we put our intention into something it produces the result of our action. Which is why, at the end of a very long day, the feeling of snuggling into a nice cosy bed brings you back into a place of gratitude.
Daily life gets filled with everything the day requires of us, somedays it can feel busy and stressful and it’s usually those days where the resounding echo of gratitude rings loud and clear.
So, what I’ve learned about this simple yet challenging practice of “Making Your Bed” is that it reminds us that the process of anything we do in life, it’s the gratitude we land on every time.
Will you be making your bed tomorrow?
How we do anything, is how we do everything!
